stop time analysis, stop time measurement, press stop time, brake monitor, brake monitoring system, brake stopping time, press brake stopping time, brake stop time measurment, brake stopping time measurementSTOP TIME ANALYSIS is perhaps the most important and critical type of inspection that can be performed on your stamping presses. OSHA regulations compel employers to establish, perform, and document various press inspection routines at regular intervals. In some cases the stopping time must be checked and documented as often as once a week.

According to R408.12412(2), unless your presses are equipped with a built-in brake monitor, a device for checking brake performance, you must inspect and test and document the brake stopping time at least once a week.

Ask us about installing a brake monitoring system on your stamping press today.

Or we can work with you to develop a system to establish, perform, and document mandated press inspections and remain compliant with these safety rules and regulation standards.

In STOP TIME ANALYSIS press inspections the performance of the clutch-brake system is being measured. Over time, the performance of the clutch-brake system degrades as wear in the integral mechanical components increases. Stop time analysis inspection data can be tracked to predict trending towards unacceptable performance limits and schedule necessary service before problems occur.

By measuring the brake stopping time, as the press crank angle passes through 90 degrees on the downstroke, the MINIMUM SAFE DISTANCE, for mounting of light curtains and positioning of operator two-hand controls, is calculated. As the brake stopping time increases, the minimum safe distance must also be increased, else adjustments or repairs must be made to reduce the brake stopping time and bring the calculated minimum safe distance back within acceptable limits.
